Long-term value hunters and season-pass bettors

Futures

A futures bet is wagered well in advance of the outcome — typically before or during a season. Examples include Super Bowl winner, NBA MVP, World Series champion, or first overall draft pick. Money is tied up until the outcome is decided.

Example

Vegas Golden Knights to win the Stanley Cup (+1200)

A $100 bet at +1200 returns $1,200 profit if the Golden Knights win the Cup. The bet is placed pre-season or during the year and graded only when the final is decided.

Pros

  • Massive payout potential
  • Lock in value early before lines move
  • Live action bets cash out throughout the season

Cons

  • Capital is locked up for months
  • Sportsbook holds are highest on futures markets
  • Injuries and trades can crater your ticket overnight
